Learn the best-kept secrets of this charming harbor village on a guided tour led by a local expert.

Located on the bank of the Ha! Ha! Bay, La Baie was the first colony built in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region. The depth of the banks of the bay's waterways facilitated the rapid development of the region's largest harbour facilities after the railways were built in 1910.

Once inhabited by Saguenay's nomadic Innu tribes, La Baie was an important part of an eighteenth century commercial route used by the Hudson's Bay Company's fur traders. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, logging, pulp and paper mills have been the main sources of socio-economic development.

This tour will allow you to discover the universe of artists from the area while crisscrossing the cultural and historical heritage of downtown La Baie.

After leaving the pier, a short walk will take you to a studio-boutique of a local textile craft artisan. Through a short demonstration, you will learn how this artist creates fashion accessories and decorations. Your tour continues to an art gallery to learn about local artist’s work and craft techniques. Your final stop will take you to a Soap Factory, greeted by the artisans.  Amid the wonderful fragrances filling the air, you will get a hands-on lesson in the basics of making goat milk soap.

As we stroll back to the ship, take a walk along the shores to discover Mars Park and enjoy the views of the scenic mountains surrounding the bay.
