A bus takes you to the north end of Magdalene Island, called the Grand-Entree. Experience impossibly beautiful scenery, various hues of green and blue water, golden sandy beaches, ever-changing sand dunes, and emerald hills contrasting red cliffs. The guide shares the history of the Islands and the Acadians who colonized the archipelago. At the village of Grosse Ile, a settlement of 500 Irish descendants, you visit a salt mine that the guide explains.

After Grosse Ile, we proceed to East Point National Wildlife Reserve, where half the group is dropped off for a 90-minute hike of three km. Discover East Point´s unique ecosystem of forests, and fixed and mobile dunes. Depending on the season, you can taste some of the reserve´s plants and berries. Marvel at vast Old Harry Beach, a former gathering place for walrus. This is an unforgettable hike through great natural beauty and additionally sheds light on the fragility of the Magdalen Islands. 

The other half of the group remaining on the bus continues to the wharf at Grande Entrée, the largest lobster-fishing pier in Québec. Here we encounter fishermen and learn about daily life connected to the sea… the history, the boats, the lobster traps, and the importance of conservation. Great stories are told here! 

We then have lunch at La Salicorne Inn.     

In the afternoon each group switches activities.
