—Lindemann Fellow and Tutor in Physics, Wadham College, University of Oxford. Martin’s research centres on the formation and evolution of galaxies. He utilises integralfield spectrographs and synthesis imaging to yield three-dimensional observations of nearby
galaxies. His current projects include calculating the weight of supermassive black holes lurking at the heart of galaxies, and characterising the nature of galaxies when our universe was only half its current age. His lectures while on board the Astronomy Tour are entitled:

DAY 1 Bergen, embarkation
Bergen, City of Seven Mountains, renowned for the colourful wooden wharfs along the Bryggen waterfront.
DAY 2 Florø – Molde
Wake up early to see Mount Hornelen before we reach Ålesund, a stylish town of Art Nouveau architecture.
DAY 3 Kristiansund – Rørvik
The old Viking city of Trondheim is today’s highlight, along with the gothic style Nidaros Cathedral.
DAY 4 Brønnøysund – Svolvær
You are invited out on deck for a traditional ceremony to mark crossing the Arctic Circle at latitude 66°33′N.
DAY 5 Stokmarknes – Skjervøy
An exclusive guided visit to the planetarium at Tromsø’s Science Centre lets you delve deeper into the Arctic sky.
DAY 6 Øksfjord – Berlevåg
The ship weaves its way to Honningsvåg and an optional excursion to the North Cape at the top of the world.
DAY 7 Båtsfjord – Kirkenes – Berlevåg
The ship turns at Kirkenes. Ports visited at night northbound will be seen in the day southbound.
DAY 8 Mehamn – Tromsø
Hammerfest is the northernmost town in the world, and home to the UNESCO-listed Meridian Column.
DAY 9 Finnsnes – Stamsund
Nothing can compare to the sheer stunning beauty of the Vesterålen and Lofoten islands.
DAY 10 Bodø – Rørvik
The Helgeland Coast awaits with the Seven Sisters range and the distinctive Torghatten Mountain.
DAY 11 Trondheim – Ålesund
You’ll return to the Royal City of Trondheim in the morning, then onto Kristiansund, Norway’s ‘cured cod capital’.
DAY 12 Bergen, disembarkation
Your voyage sadly comes to an end back in Bergen – unless you've booked a post-voyage extension
