Formalities and travel documents for Coastal Norway voyages

Thank you for choosing to travel with Hurtigruten. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required formalities and to review your travel documents.

All guests checking in at the Hurtigruten Terminal or on board our ships have to present a valid Passport or government approved ID Card. Please keep your ID at hand when boarding. Boarding will be denied if a valid ID is not presented at check-in. This applies to all guests. Guests planning to extend their journey and visit Spitsbergen, Svaldbard, are asked to take their passport with them.

Most countries now require passports to be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. If your passport is in its final year, you should check with the Embassy of the country you are visiting. For further information contact the Passport Office on 0870 5210410 or visit https://www.gov.uk/browse/citizenship/passports. For European holidays you should obtain a completed and issued form EHIC prior to departure.

Up to date travel advice can be obtained from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, visit https://www.gov.uk/travelaware.
Non-British passport holders, including other EU nationals, should obtain up to date advice on passport and visa requirements from the Embassy, High Commission or Consulate of your destination or country(ies) through which you are travelling.

We do not accept any responsibility if you cannot travel, or incur any other loss because you have not complied with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities. You agree to reimburse us in relation to any fines or other losses which we incur as a result of your failure to comply with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities.

Here you can download the travel guide for your voyage:

You can find the health and sanitary measures of our airline partners on their specific web pages.

To make packing a bit easier we have made a short list, suitable for all seasons along the Norwegian coast, which can be found here.

Approximately three weeks prior to departure you will receive your travel documents electronically, including:

  • Itinerary (for your information only)
  • Destination Information
  • Transfer vouchers (Tide Buss, if transfers have been booked)
  • Arrival-Departure Information guide (if transfers have been booked)
  • Rail tickets (if booked)
  • Pre/Post programme information (if booked)

At present, the following services from our suppliers still require printed documents for travel:

  • Transfers in Bergen, Oslo, Kirkenes, Tromsø and Trondheim
  • Norway in a Nutshell excursion

For all other services booked with Hurtigruten, no printed confirmation is required. You will need to present a valid passport or official ID card only. You do not require vouchers as proof of purchase for any hotels, shore excursions or voyages you have booked with Hurtigruten.

If you have booked flights with us you do not need paper tickets. Your boarding passes will be issued at the airport upon check-in. Please refer to the Arrival-Departure Information guide for more information.

Please read all documents carefully and contact your travel agent, tour operator or Hurtigruten (if you have booked directly with us), if you have any queries. We look forward to welcoming you on board the world’s most beautiful voyage!
