We invite you to join our special onboard activities, demonstrations and presentations, during your voyage. These activities take place inside the ship and out on deck. They are all related to the seasons of the year and the locations that we travel to.
Some of our onboard activities include presentations and tastings of local specialties from Norway’s Coastal Kitchen. For example, we offer a taste of fresh shrimp in the Lyngenfjord in the spring, cloudberries on deck during the autumn, freshly cooked fishcakes during winter, or "Trollsoup" in the summer when we sail into the Trollfjord.
The “fresh air factor”
We often hold lectures and presentations on deck out in the fresh air. These lectures and presentations are related to marine and coastal life. For example, we perform "Arctic Circle Ceremony" or "Leaving the Arctic" rituals when crossing the Arctic Circle, cod tongue-cutting demonstrations and training on how to fillet a fish, all of which are led by local fishermen. There are other activities on board, such as hunting for the Northern Lights in winter or sleeping on deck under the midnight sun.
Of course, all of these activities and lectures are voluntary. If you wish to simply relax and enjoy the view of the ever-changing scenery, you are more than welcome to do so.
Active expedition voyages
In 2016 there were three, in 2017 there were seven and from 1 April 2018, nine out of our 11 ships sailing the Norwegian coast, are dedicated to a concept that offers active expedition voyages. In the active expedition concept, we offer excursions, expert lectures and activities that make you feel like a real explorer in the Arctic wilderness. In addition, you can choose from a wide selection of active excursions from our excursion program or special hikes with the expedition team. In some ways, the active expedition concept combines the best elements of our coastal and explorer programs.
Explore and learn more
Our expedition team will also teach you about wildlife, natural phenomena, landscapes and local culture. You can follow daily lectures on board, to learn more about natural phenomena, flora & fauna, fishing traditions, polar history, Viking history, geology, glaciology and climate.
