Day 1: Anchorage Arrival
Overnight at a hotel in Anchorage.
Day 2: Anchorage to Denali Park Entrance via Talkeetna
After breakfast at your hotel, you will journey from Anchorage to the small town of Talkeetna. Drive through the striking landscape of three major mountain ranges. Upon arrival in Talkeetna, board luxury dome rail cars for passage north to Denali. This four-hour journey including lunch is regarded as the most scenic stretch of the entire Anchorage – Fairbanks journey and promises memorable views of the Alaskan interior. Riding high above the terrain, you’ll be treated to panoramic views as we approach and arrive in Denali. Over 6 million acres in size, Denali National Park is one of the world’s greatest wildlife preserves and home to North America’s tallest mountain. Most visitor facilities are grouped near the park entrance. Spend the afternoon engage in a choice of optional activities or simply relax and enjoy the views. Day 3: Denali National Park
Travel into Denali National Park today on a full-day guided bus tour. This comprehensive tour travels the length of the 92-mile park road to the remote Kantishna region, an old gold mining town during the early 1900s. Your naturalist driver/guide will help you search for bears, caribou, Dall sheep, and moose while explaining the geologic history of the park. Upon arrival in Kantishna, enjoy a two-hour stop for lunch at a wilderness lodge and optional activity. There will also be a National Park Service Ranger from Wonder Lake to answer any questions and provide additional information on the area. The return trip provides a different perspective of the park. Overnight at a lodge at Denali Park Entrance.
Day 4: Denali Park Entrance to Anchorage
Today you will travel south from Denali National Park to Anchorage on the Parks Highway. Stop along the way at Happy Trails Kennel to be greeted by 30 to 60 excited sled dogs. The Happy Trails Kennel tour begins with a virtual trip along the Iditarod trail via a video narrated by Iditarod champion Martin Buser. There is also a visit to a mockup Iditarod checkpoint where life on the trail is described including how the dogs are cared for. The tour concludes with puppy playtime and a dog sled demonstration. At the conclusion of your tour, you continue on to Anchorage.
