Tromsø is the largest town in northern Norway. This lively town is notable for its polar history museum, science centre, arts and crafts scene and the famous Arctic Cathedral. Tromsø is also a great place to find local items such as Northern Lights products, regional food products, arts and crafts, moose collectables and traditional knitwear.
Sample the town
In Tromsø, the world’s most northerly brewery, Mack Brewery, shares a building with the glass-blowing hut, Blåst. Enjoy a taste of local beer and then go to see a demonstration of the handicraft of making glass art and decorations. Or visit the glass-blowing shop, which offers a large range of handmade glass items.
Once in town, you will have about an hour to explore Tromsø on your own. This is your chance to sample the city’s many historical sights, daring architecture, wildlife, science, culture and impressive vistas.
A cable car ride to spectacular views
Next, a bus takes us to the foot of the mount Fløya. From here, we ride a cable car 584 meters up to the top, where we can get a spectacular view of the area. There is also a café at the mountaintop, where you can enjoy a snack while admiring the panorama of the city, the surrounding waterways and mountains.
