Tromsø is the largest town in northern Norway, and also a town brimming with Polar history.
Enjoy a walk in fresh air, and learn about the Polar Heroes of the past
You’ll meet your guide on the pier, and then walk along the shore to the Polar Museum. On the way you will pass the statue of Roald Amundsen, the first to conquer the South Pole. We also visit the hunting monument and the market square, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Arctic Cathedral. The Polar Museum is located in an old customs house from the 1830s and features exhibits from Norway’s polar history; including the Arctic Ocean hunt and numerous expeditions. See a film about the polar region made by Arctic hunters, and hear stories about winter trapping, seal hunting and Polar research.
Experience the oldest pub in Tromsø
Next to the northernmost brewery in the world, you naturally find Tromsø’s oldest pub. This used to be a popular meeting place for fishermen, hunters and polar explorers. Women were not allowed here until the late 1960s. Taste beer from the world’s northernmost brewery, Mack, while one of the locals tells stories about how things were back in the good old days.
