The Lofoten Islands are justly famous for their magnificent and ever-changing scenery, dominated by jagged mountains. On a clear day, the peaks of the so-called "Lofoten Wall" are plainly visible from the coast of Austvågøya, one of Lofoten's main islands.
A short bus drive from Henningsvær takes you along this coast to the starting point of your hike. Leaving the traffic behind, you begin ascending an old gravel road. This became a popular hiking trail for locals, after being closed to traffic in the 1970s.
When we reach the highest point of the road, we continue up the hill along a hiking trail. The view along the trail – towards the dramatic mountains of the Lofoten Wall, with the Vestfjord and mainland Norway as a backdrop – is truly spectacular.
After a short break with refreshment, you begin the descent to the starting point of the hike, where the bus will drive you back to Henningsvær.
