Svolvær has been a thriving fishing community since 1828. Exploring the oldest part in the quarters of Svinøya, you will learn about its early history.
Idyllic and authentic – rorbu and stockfish
Amongst the “rorbu”s (traditional fishermen’s huts) and iconic stockfish racks you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere, viewing the sea on one side and the spectacular mountain range of Lofoten on the other.
See, smell and taste
The fisheries are still of primary importance to the region, and the Lofoten cod fishery has always formed the basis of existence for the people here. Enjoy a visit to the painter Gunner Bergs' small art gallery, and taste locally produced stockfish. You will also see a fish restaurant and a fish processing plant.
