Storehesten is the most majestic peak in Sunnfjord, and is situated between Førdefjord and Dalsfjord. It is part of a mountain range that is 360 million years old and has its origins in Devonian sandstone offsets.
Our hike will start at about 400 metres above sea level, which we reach by coach. From here, there will be varied terrain and some steep areas as we hike up to the so-called “Base Camp” level at approx. 900 metres above sea level.
On a clear day, the view is breathtaking. To the east, you can enjoy the view of the Jostedal glacier in the horizon. In the westerly direction, you might catch a glimpse of the North Sea and if you turn to the south, you’ll see the mountains surrounding Bergen.
The local mountain guide will invite you to hear stories of the significance Storehesten had in the past for the communities surrounding this mountain.
