The village Bygstad, located in the inner end of Dalsfjorden, is surrounded by farmland, forest and towering mountains. High above the fjord, halfway up the hillside, lies Rytnetunet, once a traditional farm, today a place for social gatherings and relaxation.
You will be transported by coach from the pier to the old, idyllic farm sitting at the foot of the mountain named Storehesten. From the outdoor viewing platform, you can enjoy the stunning view of the mountains, the fjord and settlement.
The farm´s history goes way back, as the farm was established sometime between the 11th and 13th century. Until the Reformation it belonged to Apostelkirken (a church) in Bergen and has for more than 650 years been an independent farm.
The oldest of the houses still standing was built in the 1600s, and the farm layout and building style is typical of the area. Although it has ceased working as a regular farm, the houses are perfectly restored.
Your host/hostess will share interesting information about the farm, its history and the hardship of life in years gone by with you, and invite you to try some local specialities. See local, natural materials turned into wonderful decorations and try your skills as an archer.
Return to the pier by coach, or, if you feel like a downhill walk, on foot.
