Beautiful Senja, off the coast of Troms country, is Norway's second-largest island. It is located at latitude 69° N, which means that the Midnight Sun can be seen here during the summer solstice. Senja is an idyllic place with dramatic views of the sea, mountains, beaches and fishing villages.
Senja is also close to one of the world’s best fishing grounds – and naturally, the fishing industry dominates life here. Through this trip, we will get to know more about the locals and their way of life.
Modern life in an authentic fishing village
Gryllefjord, the biggest village on the west side of Senja, is known for its mountains and windy weather. All the houses here are clustered together, which is why this particular village is often named “the small town of Senja”.
In this adorable village, the locals are waiting for us. They will show us what life is like in a modern fishing village. They will tell us about the legends of the area, and the stories of how the people of Gryllefjord may have Portuguese origins.
We hope you will enjoy your stay in this typical north-Norwegian small town.
