According to local myth a piece of your heart remains in Uummannaq forever, summoning you back for the rest of your days. One thing is for certain, Uummannaq captures your heart immediately.
“Uummannaq” means “heart-like” and is named after the 1,175 m high, heart-shaped mountain behind the town. Uummannaq is also known for getting 2,000 hours of sunshine a year, which may be why the inhabitants are so friendly. Out on the streets you can feel the town´s positive energy, watching smiling locals stop to chat with one another. On sunny summer days, women sell handmade goods down at the harbour and the men come and go behind them on fishing boats heavy with the day’s catch on board. Chat up one of the locals yourself.
