Departure from the pier towards Pico das Flores, where it is possible to view much of the island, taking in the 5 mile beach, and islets Ilhéu de Baixo, Ilhéu de Cima and Ilhéu de Ferro. The tour carries on to the golf course, heading to the quarry of Pico de Ana Ferreira, pointing out the geologic formation (prismatic disjunction). Next is the village of Campo de Cima to see vineyards of Porto Santo wine, as well as a visit to a traditional windmill.
We then proceed along the track to the Barbara Gomes Hill, from where we can behold both sides of the island simultaneously, north and south. Continuing to the north side, we will have a short visit to the “desert” with a talk about the fossils (snails and roots) that we find there.
We drive through Camacha, and visit the “Casa da Serra de Fora” where we will have a local wine tasting. Our last stop will be the most famous viewpoint - Portela, from where we can see the sheltered port and beautiful sand beach, before returning to the centre of the city and pier.
