Our guide will take us on a tour of this fascinating structure, with spectacular views of the island and across the sea to France. We depart from Saint Helier and travel through the parish of St Clement passing Moonscape beach. The name refers to the rocks that jut out to sea for some two miles. We arrive at the village of Gorey where we visit the magnificent structure of Mont Orgueil Castle, constructed in the 13th century on a granite outcrop.
History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle
For 600 years the castle protected Jersey against French invasion. Explore the network of staircases, towers and rooms to uncover mysterious treasures. Discover hidden artwork commissioned to tell the story of the castle; climb the turrets to find the medieval ‘wheel of urine’ and descend into the cellar to experience the 'witchcraft' exhibit. Life-size wooden soldiers guard the castle from attack and 'the wounded man' statue shows the fate that could befall those fighting to save the castle from invasion. After the guided tour you will have some free time to explore the castle further or perhaps visit the pretty village of Gorey before returning to the coach. We continue through the beautiful countryside of Jersey, past narrow hedge-lined lanes, woodlands and small fields. Finally we pass through the parish of Trinity before returning to Saint Helier and the ship.
