Board a motor coach for a panoramic drive across the island to the Capelinhos interpretive Center, where you can discover the remarkable volcano that rose from the sea in 1957. The building itself, designed by the architect Nuno Ribeiro Lopes, lies hidden by volcanic sands, marking the land level prior to the eruption.
After the visit, we depart for the Botanical Garden, to enjoy a stunning 8,000 square meters of beautiful foliage. The permanent exhibition here is dedicated to the Natural History of the Azores, with an amazing collection of live plants and fascinating botanical research.
We continue towards the belvedere Espalamaca for views of the port and the charming town of Horta. During the tour, you may be reminded that the Azores have extremely dynamic weather conditions, and you can experience "four seasons in one day."
Along the way, your local guide will share interesting facts about this land of hydrangeas and hot springs, of green silence and cliff-side contemplation, before we return to the ship.
After exploring the landscape, it´s easy to believe in the legend that the nine islands of the Azores are all that remain of the lost continent of Atlantis.
