One of Gibraltar's highlights is a trip on the Cable Car. If you're scared of heights just look up, it's always the same distance upwards but whatever you do don't miss out on this incredible experience.
Built and completed by a Swiss Cable Car manufacturer, Von Roll, in 1966 the Cable Car is a must for all visitors to the Rock. The Top Station is the best place to meet our most famous residents, the barbary apes, not to mention the views and the unique hand held personnel Multimedia Guide all included in the price of your ticket. It is the perfect location to relax while enjoying the spectacular vistas with a hot or cold drink and a light snack. The Top of the Rock Souvenir Shop is also packed with unique gifts not available in town.
The highlights on this excursion are many, and come like pearls on a string:
You will stop at the very top, with stunning views of both sides of the rock, 400 meters above sea level. Here, you meet the rock’s main pack of Barbary Apes, all ages and sizes, and maybe even have a close encounter. This pack totals a number of approximately 40 apes, which we know well. Introduced in 1750, at present there’s approximately 200 apes roaming free on the upper rock. ”No touching or feeding allowed”, as they can bite.
St. Michael's Cave
300 meters above sea level, we’ll have a 20 minute visit in this natural grotto to admire its beauty with stalactites and lighting display. Inhabited by the Neanderthals and visited since the time of the Romans, prepared as an emergency hospital during WWII. Today it is a main tourist attraction and used for concerts and social events.
After the exhilarating Cable Car ride to 412m above sea level it's time to take in the scenery, take a photo with an Ape and buy a 'Top of the Rock' souvenir.
