Exploring the two-faced Bremen

Bremen, the state with many faces - on the one hand, it looks back on 1200 years of Hanseatic tradition, on the other hand, it is a modern research laboratory for future technologies: This contrast is balanced out by the cities Bremen and Bremerhaven – together they form the smallest German state. Bremen, the tenth biggest city in Germany, is a modern metropolis with a unique charm.

You will meet history at every street corner – on the market square with its grand town hall (a UNESCO world heritage site) or in the oldest quarter of town, Schnoor.

You will depart Bremerhaven by coach for an approx. 1 hr journey along one on Germany’s many Autobahnen, before arriving in Bremen.

Understanding the world through science

Once arrived you will be taken to the Universum Science Center, a modern science museum and adventure land that presents living, interactive science. Ever since humans have been able to think, they have tried to understand the world, and researchers and scientists nowadays similarly try to understand what remains beyond our comprehension. The Universum in Bremen is a unique environment in which you will be able to have fun with the wonders of our lives and the world that surrounds us.

The Science Center provides diverse and unique insights into the scientific aspects of everyday life. Here you will be able to uniquely combine science and adventure & knowledge and entertainment.  Enjoy a brief orientation tour/introduction of this museum through you tour guide before you will explore this interesting museum yourself.

Fascinating Bremen by foot

After your visit to the Universum you will take a short transfer into the historical city center of Bremen, a fascinating city that can look back on a 1000 years of history!

For most part the tour will be on foot and will include some of the landmarks and attractions that should not be missed starting at the graceful statue of the Knight Roland, who has been smiling down on the market place since 1404 and is the best known of the 27 that can be found worldwide and the city’s most famous landmark – he is a symbol of Bremen’s freedom; the Market Square, known as the most beautiful one in Europe and where the architectural styles of 5 different eras are visible.

Pass by the 600 years old ‘Bremer Rathaus’ (Old City Hall), Bremen’s most proud and prime example of distinct Gothic architecture, dating back to 1405 with its magnificent facade. From here you will walk across to the St. Petri Cathedral, originating from the first half of the 13th century.

Animals and... music?

Have you ever heard the tale of the music making animals that were on their way to Bremen? Your next stop will be at the famous internationally acclaimed bronze statue of the ‘Bremer Stadtmusikanten’ (Bremer Town Musicians), sculptured in 1951, where you can pose for your photo of these fairytale animals.

Continue into the ‘Schnoorviertel’, the oldest residential quarter still intact with its picturesque burgers houses’, some dating back to the 15th century, cozy taverns and small shops.

Return to Bremerhaven by bus with wonderful memories of this historical city and keeping your curiosity alive.
