Visit Bleaker Island – an island rich with wildlife and home to three species of penguins. This is a trip for the adventurous, with a 30-minute flight in one of our fleet of five twin-engine Britten-Norman Islander aircraft, operated by the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS).
The 30-minute flight provides an aerial view of rugged mountainous terrain, wild landscapes and natural coastal beauty. Photos are permitted on the flight, and if you have keen eyes you may spot a whale or two, dolphins or even an albatross.
On arrival at Bleaker Island, the island´s owner Mr. Mike Rendall welcomes you. The Bleaker Island tour includes the chance to see Gentoo penguins, Magellanic penguins and Rockhopper penguins. Sandy Bay, a white sand beach with crystal clear waters, is a fantastic viewing platform to watch the penguins return from feeding.
There is also a large pond where many waterfowl thrive, including Silvery Grebe, Black Necked Swan and Brown Hooded Gull.
We then stop for refreshments and a bathroom break at the Short family farm, where you can enjoy home-baked cookies in Mrs. Short’s farmhouse kitchen before returning to the airstrip for the flight back to Stanley.
