This expedition is pure Antarctica, exploring its peninsula during the late summer season, the best time for whale-watching and to see penguins growing new plumage. We will also make an attempt at sailing south of the Antarctic Circle to Marguerite Bay, a remote region few ever get to visit.
Tango, tastes and theatre
Your journey kicks off with a night in Buenos Aires, the place for tango, steak and shows. The next morning, you’ll fly to the southern city of Ushuaia to board hybrid-powered MS Fridtjof Nansen. As we start crossing the Drake Passage, we enter expedition mode. From now on ice, sea and weather conditions become more unpredictable, and we may have to adapt our itinerary accordingly. That’s part of being on an expedition. Our experienced Captain and Expedition Team will work with the natural forces to bring you to the best site for each given day.
Going boldly beyond the Antarctic Circle
Your expedition with us will bring you ashore in Antarctica and on ice-cruises whenever possible, allowing you to marvel at icebergs and beautiful sunsets, spot whales, and visit colonies of moulting penguins. The Expedition Team will be giving lectures and organising optional activities like kayaking. As long as weather and sea ice cooperate, we’ll sail beyond 66°33' South and maybe explore some of the research stations around usually hard-to-reach Marguerite Bay.
