Fair trade coffee at sea

Enjoy fair trade coffee at sea and contribute to certified sustainability.

We are delighted to announce that we have started serving ecological fair-trade coffee from Friele on every Hurtigruten ship.

This ecological fair-trade coffee is a tasty coffee from South America composed by fresh, round and medium dark beans, with a long aftertaste finished off by a slight hint of honey. The estimated order is 40,000 kg per year.

Choosing Friele as a certified partner - with his social and environmental commitments - supports our "Coastal Kitchen" concept that emphasises local and seasonal food. And even more, this traditional coffee manufacturer originates in a seaman’s foundation!

From Brazil to Bergen

"Kaffehuset Friele" is a Norwegian coffee manufacturer and brand based in Bergen, Norway. The company was started in 1799 when ship captain Herman Friele landed in Bergen to start trading. He bought a property in Bergen and established an import business with emphasis on coffee.

Friele is now owned by the seventh generation and chairman, Herman Friele. Friele buys its coffee beans from 9–10 different countries, but mainly from Brazil and Kenya.

Every 6th coffee for free

By the way: Ask our cafeteria lady for a bonus card on board. From January we invite you to one free coffee along with every 5th bonus stamp!
