Enjoying a close–up voyage to the White Continent, this tour visits the equally remote Falkland Islands and South Georgia, vital breeding ground for seal, penguin and albatross.
The comfortable MS Nordnorge is especially designed to cope with polar exploration making for a very safe and stable but nonetheless thrilling voyage, while our Polar Cirkel inflatable boats enable us to land just about anywhere. Lectures and talks are conducted by experts on the region’s fascinating heritage, natural history and polar exploration.
These will prepare you for the visual feast that the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica present, from vast colonies of penguins to iceberg-lined channels to historical sites frozen in time.
For your ease and convenience the itinerary described below is based on your South America package and voyage and does not include intercontinental flights. This gives you the flexibility of adding your own flights whether it’s through Hurtigruten, online, through your local travel agent or by using your Airmiles. Flight add-ons costs from £845 per person and a range of free regional connections are available.
Voyage Itinerary
Day 1- 2
Arrive in Buenos Aires, transfer to hotel. Free time to explore this historic city.
Day 3
Fly to Puerto Madryn and transfer to MS Nordnorge, set sail for the Falkland Islands.
Day 4
At sea. Lectures on the wildlife and history of the Falkland Islands.
Day 5 – 7
Exploring Port Stanley and the wildernesses and fauna of the Falkland Islands.
Day 8 – 9
At sea, towards South Georgia.
Day 10 – 12
Visit the wildlife colonies, whaling stations and historic sights of South Georgia.
Day 13– 14
Sail across the Scotia Sea to Antarctica.
Day 15– 18
In and around Antarctica, highlights include the South Shetland Islands and isles along the Antarctic Peninsula. Visit penguin colonies, discover ice formations and look out for whales, dolphins, seals and sea birds. The exact itinerary will depend on ice, sea and weather conditions but we hope to visit locations including Deception Island, Port Lockroy, Cuverville Island, Arctowski base, Almirante Brown and the iceberg-lined Lemaire Channel. During our time here there will be regular land and boat excursions.
Day 18– 19
Cross the Drake Passage, passing Cape Horn, en route to Ushuaia.
Day 20
Arrive in Ushuaia and explore Argentina’s most southerly city. Fly to Buenos Aires, overnight stay.
Day 21
Transfer to airport for international flight.
Please note that the itinerary for the February 2009 departures operates in reverse. The itinerary for February 2008 includes the voyage from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires and passengers will be transferred directly to the airport on arrival resulting in one night less in Buenos Aires.
