A Taste of Lapland

Experience the exciting story of the Arctic Ocean coast on this educational excursion that takes you through some diverse, truly fascinating natural wonders.

A Taste of Lapland

First of all, we visit the Coastal Heritage Centre in Foldalbruket, which is a quaint fish processing
plant abandoned back in the 1940s.

Here you will get an insight into Finnmark’s history,
right from the birth of Christ up to the present day. You’ll also learn how dried cod developed into a commercial product, before sampling some for yourself.

Afterwards we continue into the mountains, where you’ll
head to a Sámi camp and meet the Utsi family, who will welcome you into their lavvo dressed in traditional costumes. You will hear about the traditions and the Sámi people’s way of life. You will also get to hear traditional Sámi songs (”joik”). We then go out to see the reindeer, and you can try your hand at lassoing. The trip continues up to the Finnmark plateau, 300 metres above sea level, where we hope to see a herd of reindeer in their natural habitat.
