Norway's Stunning Birdlife
-
Your voyage south form Kirkenes to Bergen offers the rare opportunity to take part in a unique land
and sea experience in search of northern Europe’s distinctive and varied birdlife.
Travelling through a landscape of towering mountain peaks and breathtaking fjords this is a fantastic opportunity to combine Hurtigruten and bird watching on two of our voyages in May when millions of rare
migrating birds return to the Arctic coast during their nesting period. Species like puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, Arctic skuas, northern
fulmars, northern gannets and sea eagles are numerous in this area. Enjoy the full Hurtigruten experience together with field trips, excursions, on board sighting sessions and lectures amidst the stunning backdrop
of this beautiful coastline.
We hope to cover the following during the voyage, some of which are optional excursions:
• Boat trip from the harbour of Vardø to
Hornøya Nature Reserve to get close-up
views of the seabirds in this easternmost
point of Norway.
• Bird watching Safari in the North
Cape Area where Gannets and tens of
thousands seabirds creates a fantastic
spectacle for this excursion.
• Birdlife in Tromsø area through the
photographic lens
• Short visit to Trondenes church and
the Lake Laugen where 3-5 pairs of
Slavoninan Grebes breeds, here also
Tufted Ducks and warblers thrive in this
historic Viking grounds.
• Experience Sea Eagles close up near
Svolvær on the Sea Eagle Safari.
• See the southernmost major seabird
colony in Norway, where you could
walk close to Puffins and other seabirds
including the Peregrine falcon hunting in
the cliffs.
• Midnight sun excursion to view Redthroated
Divers and thousands of birds
on migration.
• Visit to Lake Kalandsvatnet listening for
Acrocehalus warblers and waterbirds.
