Hurtigruten Winter

A winter experience, in search of the Northern Lights, when the landscape is covered in pure white snow is a beautiful and refreshing experience.

Hunting the arctic lights (15 Nov - 31 Mar)

Winter is one of the most special times to explore Norway’s northern reaches. The landscape is covered in pure white snow and the air is fresh and crisp, whilst the night sky teases you with the chance of witnessing the spectacular Northern Lights.

Experience the natural, unspoilt beauty of the Norwegian winter aboard a Hurtigruten ship. Enjoy relaxing days, local cuisine, and the warm company of like-minded adventurers.

Our voyages go beyond traditional cruising, taking you
closer to the breathtaking environments, fascinating people and spectacular scenery of Arctic Norway’s coastline. Join our excursion to the top of the world, the North Cape 71° N – northernmost point of Continental Europe.

The sun is low on the horizon, and north of the Arctic Circle is below the horizon for some weeks. This natural phenomenon creates fascinating lights, with the Northern Lights as pure magic.

December
We celebrate a traditional Norwegian Christmas and New Year on board.

January to March
The sun returns in the north and the famous winter fishing in Lofoten goes on in these cold, fresh months.

Why the worlds most beautiful voyage during winter

The Arctic lights
Arctic blue, icy white, fiery yellow, mother of pearl, and the fascinating Aurora Borealis (Northern lights). In the north the sun is leaving and returning.

The winter landscape
It is beautiful, pure and extremely varied.

The air
The air is fresh, clean, pure and crisp.

Sailing far, far north
We sail far above the Arctic Circle. The coast of Norway is one of few places in the world where this is possible in wintertime, due to ice free ports as a result of the Gulf Stream.
