This voyage travels from the northern extremes of Kirkenes and across the Arctic Circle, taking in the rich majesty of the spectacular Lofoten Islands, the awe-inspiring Geirangerfjord and the Art Deco splendours of Ålesund en route to Bergen.
Beginning in Oslo gives an opportunity to explore something of Norway’s Viking heritage, before flying north to the remote settlement of Kirkenes. Boarding the Hurtigruten voyage travelling south, we then sail to Hammerfest and Tromsø, before taking in the breathtaking wonders of the staggeringly beautiful Lofoten Islands.
Crossing the Arctic Circle we then make a stop at the historic city of Trondheim, before breaking our journey in Ålesund, where we disembark to spend two days exploring the natural beauty of the Geirangerfjord and its environments by land and sea. After a chance to enjoy the unique Art Deco beauty of Ålesund and visit the bird cliffs of Runde, we rejoin the southbound voyage to Bergen and spend a night here.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Oslo. Overnight at airport hotel.
Day 2
Early morning flight to Kirkenes and embark ship in time for lunch. Set sail just after midday to begin the journey to Hammerfest.
Day 3
Arrive Hammerfest and join an optional excursion to explore something of the history of the world’s northernmost town, before continuing to Tromsø for a chance to enjoy a midnight concert in the spectacular Arctic Cathedral.
Day 4
Sail through the magnificent Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands, one of the scenic highlights of the journey, enjoying the incredible spectacle of its labyrinthine network of exquisite channels and islands.
Day 5
Cross the Arctic Circle and sail through frozen landscapes steeped in Norwegian folklore.
Day 6
After a morning’s visit to the medieval city of Trondheim, continue on to Ålesund, where we disembark for a 2-night stay.
Day 7
Explore the Art Nouveau charms of Ålesund and the bird island of Runde.
Day 8
A full day’s excursion taking in the breathtaking majesty of the UNESCO setting of the famous Geirangerfjord, the Norangsdalen ruins and the Trollstigen (Trolls Path Road). Rejoin the ship at midnight.
Day 9
Arrive Bergen early afternoon and transfer to a central hotel for the night.
Day 10
Free time in Bergen, depending on your return flights.
