A magical musical voyage in a most spectacular setting

On board MS Trollfjord enjoy a musical themed voyage taking you from Tromsø to Norway’s capital Oslo. Enjoy concerts on board, along the coast of Arctic Norway in the land of the mystical Northern Lights.

Oslo Opera House

On the 15 June 1999 the National Assembly (Stortinget) approved the building of a new national opera house in Oslo which ended more than 120 years of debate. Groundwork began in 2003 and on April 12th 2008 the new opera house opened with a Gala Performance followed by an inaugural season which ran until until June 2009. This white marble landmark on the shore of the Oslo Fjord is situated in the heart of the capital.

From the outside the most striking feature is the sloping stone roof, made up of 36,000 fitted pieces, which seems to rise from the water of the fjord. It has been described by the Norwegian architects as a ‘fifth wall’, designed so visitors can walk up the gentle incline to the top and look out over the city and the fjord. The inside of the opera house has been lined with crafted woodwork and decorated with fine art.

Day 1 Tromsø

Fly to Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic and board the ship at midnight keeping your eyes open for the spectacular Northern Lights as you navigate through inlets and channels of these cool waters. (D).

Day 2 Harstad-Risoyhamn-Sortland- Stokmarknes-Svolvær-Stamsund

Jagged snow-clad peaks rise sharply from the sea and soon you will reach the beautiful islands of Lofoten and Vesteralen. Later, the ship heads east across Vestfjord toward Bodø before arriving in Svolvær and Stamsund. This beautiful chain of islands is the home to many traditional fishing communities and has recently been voted one of the world’s most beautiful island destinations by National Geographic (B,L,D).

There will also be concerts on board.

Day 3 Ornes-Nesna-Sandnessjoen- Bronnoysund-Rorvik

Arctic Norway Arctic Norway

From Ørnes, you will travel through deep waters, filled with spawning cod from January to April, and pass agricultural landscape. Nearly every towering peak you see is associated with a local legend.

Crossing the Arctic Circle, you will pass the idyllic island of Sandnessjøen. On the approach to Brønnøysund, which you reach this afternoon, are the mythical Seven Sisters Mountains.

Make sure you are on deck when the ship departs Brønnøysund, and you will be impressed by the captain's steady hand! The last port of call will be Rørvik where there is a chance to enjoy the award-winning maritime museum.

Day 4 Trondheim-Kristiansund-Molde

Your journey continues south to Trondheim, the Viking capital of Norway. Here you will have the opportunity to see the 18th century Stiftsgården Palace and the magnificent 14th century Nidaros Cathedral, considered to be one of the grandest Gothic buildings in northern Europe.

You will then sail out through the beautiful Trondheimsfjord, past Hitra, island of deer, and lonely Grip. Call at Molde before arriving in Ålesund late in the evening in time for a stroll on shore (B,L,D)
