North Cape and Ice Hotel Adventure

Discover northern Norway in the winter on an Arctic adventure which combines a stay at the Alta Igloo Ice Hotel with a voyage on Hurtigruten and a visit to mainland Europe’s most northerly point – the North Cape.

Day 1 Tromsø

Arrive in Tromsø, the "Paris of the North" and transfer to the ship for embarkation.  Your journey starts with a leisurely voyage north, observing the sky for a chance to see the mystical Northern Lights.

Day 2 Hammerfest-Havoysund- Honningsvag

Enjoy the voyage travelling North to the region of Finnmark where the landscape is austere in its beauty, teeming with wildlife. Watch for rookeries of puffins and gannets along the cliffs and pods of orca hunting for herring.

Arrive in Norway’s northernmost borough at Honningsvåg, ‘The Town by the North Cape’ where you will have an overnight stay. Be sure to take the optional North Cape excursion, mainland Europe’s northernmost point, to experience spectacular views and sheer cliffs rising from ever changing seas. Savour the peace of St John’s chapel, a sheltered viewing point partly blasted out of the rock and joined by a tunnel to the visitor centre which houses the post office, from where letters home will bear the rare North Cape postmark (B).

Later that afternoon there is another chance to participate in some exciting excursions, why not try our optional King Crab Adventure or Snowmobile excursion.

Day 3-4 Alta Igloo Ice Hotel

Snowmobiling in Arctic Norway Snowmobiling in Arctic Norway

Transfer to the Alta Igloo Ice Hotel.

Each January, the Alta Igloo Hotel is constructed entirely out of snow and ice. It houses a bar, gallery, wedding chapel and several lounges all decorated with impressive ice sculptures that are beautifully lit to create a magical atmosphere. The temperature is approximately -4ºC to -7ºC but reindeer hides cover the ice-beds and thermal sleeping bags will keep you snug and warm during your stay.

Alta is situated in Norwegian Lapland high above the Arctic Circle and there are several optional excursions, such as Snowmobiling, Dog Sledging or a short trip on a Horse drawn sleigh, which you can enjoy before having a drink at the Ice Bar and a traditional dinner. Relax in the sauna and hot tub before retiring for the night in one of the cosy rooms (B,D).

The next morning transfer to the airport for your return home.

B=Breakfast, D=Dinner

Please note that Dog Sledging and Snowmobiling in Alta cannot be combined.
