Traveling to remote regions along the most northerly part of Norway, the entire duration of this tour is spent above the Arctic Circle, increasing your chances of seeing the Nortern Lights.
Day 1 Tromsø
-
Your journey begins at the same latitude as Siberia and Alaska, where the influence of the Gulf Stream creates the longest ice–free polar coast.
Joining the ship in Norway’s Arctic capital,Tromsø, you begin a leisurely voyage north in search of the Northern Lights, keeping your eyes to the skies as you pass through the waters towards Honningsvåg (D).

Days 2-3 Hammerfest-Kirkenes

-
From Honningsvåg you can join an excursion to mainland Europe’s most northerly point –the North Cape. This is a wild and windswept headland where the cliffs rise dramatically 300 metres from the sea and you gaze out with nothing but water between you and the frozen wastes surrounding the North Pole.
After calling at Honningsvåg, the ship heads east towards the pretty fishing villages of Kjøllefjord, Mehamn and Berlevåg.
Sailing on, you turn east and eventually reach the sheltered harbour of Kirkenes, a mere 10km from the Russian border and the Sami communities of Northern Finland. Kirkenes is the turning point for the voyage and this fascinating little town allows a tantalising glimpse into life in this remote region of Norway (B,D).
Optional shore excursions: Visit the Russian Border - Kirkenes, Snow Hotel - Kirkenes, Husky Adventure -Kirkenes, Snowmobile Safari - Kirkenes

After a few hours the ship will depart upon the southbound half of the voyage from Kirkenes. Hugging the coastline you revisit remote settlements which rely on the Hurtigruten ships to maintain contact with the rest of Norway.
Crossing Varangerfjord, Norway's only east-facing fjord and a fabled bird-watching site, you will arrive in Vardo, the easternmost point of the Norway.
Next the ship will round the Varanger peninsula, where archaeologists excavated a community believed to date from 9000 BC. In the evening, the ship calls at Batsfjord which also boasts the remains of a Stone Age settlement and Berlevag. Look out for the Tanahorn mountain, which long ago was a Sami sacrifice site.
You will dock in Tromsø just in time to savour its nightlife and transfer to your centrally located Hotel for an overnight stay (B,D).
