Hunting the Light

We are pleased to introduce 'Hunting the Light' - our new on board programme, incorporating various activities as well as optional excursions designed to bring you evern closer to Norway, its history and the elusive Northern Lights.  Available on many of our Northern Lights Holidays and Cruises

We start in Bodø at 15:00 and this day is full of events. Just after embarking we will perform an Arctic Circle Baptism and you will get a chance to learn more about this spectacular light enclosed in mythical fables.

Later in the evening you will have a chance to experience a Viking Feast in traditional surroundings in Lofoten if you choose to join our optional excursion. When arriving in Tromsø the following day you can visit the world northernmost brewery or, if you are more adventurous, why not try the dog sledding?

We continue our journey northbound as the Captain tells us about the life along the coast while we keep Hunting for the Light. On day 3 you can choose to visit North Cape or what about a snowmobile trip along the coast? Perhaps even a fisherman will let us see how he catches King Crab. On this day you will also receive your Diploma from the Baptism a few days ago.

On the fourth and final day we arrive in Kirkenes. Here you can go for a King Crab trip which includes a taste of the local delicacies and if you like why not go and see the Snow Hotel which is build solely in ice and snow.

An experience like this is surely one that will give you memories for the rest of your life!

Day 1: Bodø to Stokmarknes, Lofoten

Embark in Bodø at 15:00.  As you cross the Arctic Circle you enter King Neptune's realm and with the traditional baptism he will welcome you to the Arctic.  At 17:00 there is a presentation in the bar about the magnificent Polar lights.  During our stop at the Lofoten Islands you can join an excursion to the Viking Museum at Borg and enjoy a traditional Viking Feast.

Back on the ship again home made fish cakes are served on deck at 23:00 while we sail by the entrance to the beautiful Trollfjorden.

Day 2: Harstad, Tromsø

Visit the capital of the Arctic and enjoy an about Tromsø – lecture held a 10:00.

At 14:30 we will arrive in Tromsø where you have the chance to join a Polar History city walk which includes a visit to the world's most northerly brewery or go for a exhilarating Husky dog sledging trip! In the evening the ship sails along a part of the coastline which sees more Northern Lights than anywhere else along the coast.

Join us on deck at 20:45 and listen to the Captain talk about life along the Norwegian coast.

Day 3: Honningsvåg, Kjøllefjord and Mehamn

Arrive Honningsvåg at 11:45.

Here you can visit the North Cape, the northernmost point in mainland Europe. On board the ship there is a presentation about the Sami people in the bar on 15:30. At 17:00 go up on deck and witness a fantastic rock formation lit in light. Conditions permitting you can join a local fisherman pull in the king crab pots.

Arrive in Kjøllefjord at 17:30 and join a scooter trip on the roof of Europe. At 19:45 the captain invites you for dinner and you will be given your Artic Circle Awards.

Day 4: Kirkenes

On arrival in Kirkenes, you can participate in optional Possibility excursions such as the King Crab Excursion or a visit to the Snow Hotel made solely of snow and ice.
