The largest island in the world, Greenland is a land of unparalleled contrasts: a pristine wilderness of rugged mountains and awe-inspiring fjords, lush green valleys and incredible wildlife, where some of the most active glaciers on Earth and icebergs the size of cathedrals, play out a tableau of breathtaking beauty across its timeless landscape.

A land of extremes, 85% of Greenland is covered with ice, some of it up to three kilometres thick, representing 10% of the planets natural fresh-water reserves. But far from being a frozen wasteland the island actually contains a staggeringly rich vein of natural and cultural diversity, offering visitors some of the most remarkable wildlife experiences on Earth and a fascinating insight into a history and culture that has survived and thrived in these harsh realms for millennia.

Journeying aboard the superbly equipped MS Fram, our custom-made vessel designed specifically for exploration in these northern waters, we explore the dramatic Arctic coastline, from the sparsely populated extremes of the northwest, through to the lush rich valleys of its southern seas. This is nature at her most inspired, where towering ice sculptures share the seas with majestic humpbacks and narwhales, where mighty glaciers roll down to the very edge of the icy depths and where the skies are filled with the sights and sounds of thousands of seabirds. Stopping at the coastal communities along the way we follow in the footsteps of earlier pioneers, visiting abandoned whaling stations and ancient Inuit burial grounds, remote settlements and Viking longhouses. With opportunities to venture farther afield and explore the flora and fauna of the island's remarkable landscape by foot, dog sled and even helicopter, these exhilarating voyages to the northern extremes of our planet offer the chance for adventure and exploration in the time honoured fashion of the explorers of old.

Local Knowledge

Guest lecturers and a wide ranging programme of discussions on all aspects of Greenland's history, flora and fauna will enhance your time on board and our extensive menus are inspired by Arctic food, utilising a range of locally produced ingredients.

Climate & Temperatures

Although Greenland has an Arctic climate (which means the average temperature never exceeds 10°C in one month), the summers are relatively mild particularly in areas sheltered from wind. Inside the fjords the temperatures can reach up to 20°C.

Midnight Sun

The majority of Greenland lies above the Arctic Circle and therefore benefits from the Midnight Sun during the summer. This means 24 hours of sunlight to experience this unique landscape from the end of May to the end of July.
